Faith Over Safety
"He said, 'Come.' So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.” - Matthew 14:29
Playing it safe is not always the safest thing to do. When God calls you to step out in faith, the riskiest thing you can do is stay in the boat. Safety is an illusion when you are outside of God's will, and security is guaranteed when you are following His leading.
Peter is often criticized for sinking when he walked on water, but we forget that he was the only one who got out of the boat. The other eleven disciples stayed in their comfort zone and missed the miracle. They chose safety over faith and missed the adventure of a lifetime.
God often calls you to do things that don't make sense from a human perspective. He called Noah to build an ark when there was no sign of rain. He called Moses to confront Pharaoh with nothing but a stick. He called David to fight Goliath with a slingshot. He called Mary to believe for a virgin birth. None of it made sense, but all of it was God's plan.
Taking risks for God is not reckless; it's faith-full. You are not jumping off a cliff blindfolded; you are stepping into the arms of a faithful God who has never let you down. He has proven His trustworthiness over and over again in your life and in the lives of countless others.
Is there a step of faith that God has been calling you to take, but you have been hesitating because it feels risky? Choose to trust God more than your fears and take that step today.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to choose faith over fear and adventure over safety. Give me courage to step out of my comfort zone when You call me to do something that requires faith. I trust You to catch me when I take risks for Your kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
