Lessons Already Lived

"Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did." – 1 Corinthians 10:6

There is a reason history is required in school. The goal is not just to memorize names and dates. It is to understand the decisions and events that shaped the past so we can make better decisions in the future. If we are wise, we do not just study what worked; we also pay close attention to what went wrong.

The same is true when it comes to your faith. The Bible is not just a book of stories; it is a record of real people who followed God, struggled with sin, walked in faith, fell into temptation, overcame giants, and made devastating mistakes. Their stories were recorded on purpose. As 1 Corinthians 10:6 reminds us, "Now these things took place as examples for us." God did not hide their flaws because He wanted you to learn from them.

When you open Scripture, you are not starting from scratch. You are being handed wisdom that spans generations. You are being shown what happens when pride wins and when humility leads. You are shown how powerful obedience can be and how dangerous compromise becomes. You are given clear insight into what matters most to God, and how people just like you learned that the hard way or the faithful way.

The Bible is not outdated or irrelevant. It is timeless truth from the One who sees the beginning and the end. If you ignore it, you risk walking into the same traps. But if you lean in, you will see that God has already laid the foundation for your growth. The answers to many of the questions you wrestle with have already been revealed in the lives of those who came before you.

Do not waste the wisdom God has made available. You do not need to fall into the same pits to learn how deep they are. You do not need to test every consequence to find out what it costs. Open the Word. Learn from the wins. Learn from the losses. And let the lessons already lived become the path you walk to something greater.
