Obedience Through Prayer
“But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” - Matthew 6:6
If you want to follow God, it is going to require obedience. When you obey God, you are showing God that you love Him. As we have learned over the last couple of days, loving God is the greatest commandment of all. And there is no greater way to show that love than through obedience.
So now that we know the two greatest commandments – love God and love others as ourselves – we want to dive a little bit deeper. How can we obey God further?
You can start with prayer. Prayer is how we communicate with God. It is hard to have a good relationship with someone without communicating with them.
Prayer is the space where we can go to God about everything in our lives. We can tell Him about our greatest trials and difficulties. We can tell Him about the things we are thankful for and love about our lives. We can tell Him about the things or people we are missing. We can tell Him about everything. God loves to hear what is on our hearts.
Prayer is great for talking to God. But it is also great for LISTENING to God. See, prayer is not a one-way street. Just like you can talk to God through prayer, He can and will talk to you. It might not be verbally where we straight up hear Him speaking, but God has infinite resources that He can use to reach us.
If you want to remain fully and carefully obedient to God as instructed in Deuteronomy 28:1, you must stay consistent with prayer. To carefully uncover what God wants to share with us, we need to remain in a posture of prayer with Him.
Are you praying to God regularly? When is the last time you talked to God? When is the last time you heard from Him? These are good questions to ask yourself to keep your prayer life strong.

I thought of this verse yesterday when I was telling my wife what I prayed for down at the altar yesterday when we both went down there to pray for a friend we brought with us. The service was so strange. After my comments yesterday I had a feeling the service was going to be different but it disturbed me. It usually seems like it’s all about me but after we prayed something inside me changed. Like it had left me. I had a hard time noticing all the “Easter eggs” I usually see. But then after we left I noticed all the signs were still there that He heard me and had not left. Felt like a spoiled little kid. I’m glad though if that is what happened. It doesn’t have to always be about me. I’ve already seen enough miracles in my life to trust Him. Thank you Pastor Ed.
I forgot because I didn’t listen to it just now and I would never speak in front of everyone. My word was jubilee.
