Worth The Wait
“Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.’” - Genesis 41:39-40
Over the past week, we have discussed at nauseam the difficulties of Joseph’s life. All that he has been through, though none of it he asked for, was for a purpose. And though on many occasions he was mistreated, God used it all.
We know the famous verse from Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” There is no greater example of this than with Joseph in Genesis 41.
Two years after helping the cupbearer and the baker interpret their dreams before Pharaoh, Joseph finally gets his chance to interpret Pharaoh’s dream. Now, very humbly, Joseph admits he is not the one, but God in him, that is able to interpret the dream. And it is for this reason, the fact that God was with him, that Joseph was able to leave such an impression after interpreting Pharaoh’s dream.
Genesis 41 says, “Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.’”
After all that he had been put through, God worked it for good. Joseph was now #2 in all of Egypt. This is not something anybody would have predicted when he was a servant to Potiphar, or in prison, but Joseph continued to honor God. It did not make the adversity any slighter. It did not make the difficulties any easier, but it did lead to the ultimate reward.
And that reward was worth the wait. Whatever it is you are waiting on, whatever it is you constantly debate yourself on whether you should continue to remain obedient, the answer is yes, you should. What God has in store for you is worth the wait!
