Whose Name Are You Building?

"He must increase, but I must decrease." - John 3:30

Why do you want God to fulfill the dream He placed in your heart? Is it to make a name for yourself, or is it to make His name known?

It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of success. You pray for God to open doors, to bring opportunities, to elevate you to places you’ve only imagined. But if you’re not careful, your dream can slowly shift from being about Him to being about you. The platform becomes about recognition. The success becomes about status. The blessing becomes about validation.

But God does not give dreams to glorify you. He gives them to draw people to Him.
Look at Joseph. God gave him a dream of leadership, but Joseph had to go through years of testing before he was ready. When he was young, he saw the vision and thought it was about his elevation. His brothers bowing to him, his position of power. But after the pit, after slavery, after prison, Joseph finally understood: it was never about him.

God didn’t raise Joseph up so that he could sit on a throne for his own glory. He raised him up to save a nation. The dream wasn’t about status, it was about stewardship.

Maybe the reason you haven’t stepped into your dream yet isn’t because God is delaying. It’s because He’s waiting for you to realize that the dream was never about you in the first place. He’s not looking to elevate egos. He’s looking for willing hearts, people who will take what He gives them and use it to lead others to Him.

Ask yourself honestly: Whose name am I trying to build? If your dream is about bringing recognition to yourself, don’t be surprised if God doesn’t rush to fulfill it. But if your dream is surrendered, if you’re willing to use everything He gives you to point people back to Him, then you are exactly the kind of person He is looking to use.

God wants to fulfill His purpose in you, but not to make you famous. He wants to use you to bring people into His kingdom. So today, shift your focus. Lay down your pride. Surrender the dream back to the One who gave it. When you realize that it was never about you, that is when God will move you forward.

That’s what I erased yesterday! Lol. When I start to live with integrity I also start to stand out. And it’s easy for my ego to start getting involved if I’m not spending time in honest prayer. The truth is in the mornings and in the evenings I am on my knees asking God for forgiveness for all the many ways where i stray in both my thoughts and my actions. He has openly rewarded me with some integrity and success. As long as it isn’t me who is lifting me up I hope I am ok to enjoy what He gives me. He sure does love us though. It really does feel good to have Him help me with my self centeredness. To be able to think of others and be empowered by Him in that way. It probably is paradoxically more helpful to me than it is to anyone else.
