Something Greater

“Those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.” - 1 Corinthians 7:31

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most.” Unfortunately, sin often is a result of choosing what we want in the moment and undermining what we want long-term.

Sin might feel good, but it takes away an opportunity for what is great. If you want to experience God’s best for your life, you are going to have to consistently make the choice: do you want something good or something great?

To choose sin is to choose something good in the moment. But what you must understand is that the moment doesn’t last. 1 Corinthians 7:31 says, “Those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.”

But what God has for you will last forever. God’s blessings always deliver more than you deserve. That’s just the type of God He is. If you want to experience His blessings, His best, you are going to have to delay your gratification.

So many people are experiencing pain, heartbreak, and loss because they chose what they wanted in the moment over what they wanted most, and now they are living with those consequences.

You have to choose a pain: the pain of self-discipline or the pain of self-regret. The pain of self-discipline is short-lived. You have to turn down something for a moment, but the reward far outlasts the sacrifice.

The pain of self-regret is the exact opposite. Sure, you get what you want in the moment, but the long-term consequences far outlast the short-term enjoyment.

The choice is yours. Something good or something greater? What God has for you is always greater. Which will you choose?
