A Champion, Not a Contestant

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31

When we hear the story of David and Goliath, it’s often painted as a classic underdog tale. The small guy takes on the giant against all odds and somehow wins. In the sports world, it’s the Cinderella story of the smaller team taking down the powerhouse. But here’s the truth you need to know: David wasn’t the underdog—Goliath was.

Why? Because God was on David’s side. Goliath may have been nearly 10 feet tall, covered in armor, and wielding weapons, but none of that mattered. When God is with you, size, strength, and skill don’t stand a chance. David didn’t walk into that battlefield as a contestant trying to prove himself. He stepped onto the field as a champion because God had already chosen him.

David’s confidence wasn’t rooted in his own ability. It wasn’t because he had perfected his slingshot skills or had won countless battles as a shepherd. His confidence came from knowing that God was with him. This wasn’t self-confidence, it was God-confidence. David knew he was anointed for a greater purpose, and that knowledge fueled his courage to face the giant.

The same is true for you. You’re not a contestant in life, trying out for God’s approval or hoping to measure up. God has already chosen you. You’re not fighting your battles alone. Whatever giants you’re facing—fear, doubt, insecurity, failure—they don’t stand a chance because God is for you.

So where does your confidence come from? It doesn’t come from your abilities, your track record, or how you measure up to others. Your confidence comes from knowing that God has called you, chosen you, and equipped you. You’re not just trying to survive, you’ve been anointed to thrive in the calling He has placed on your life.

Step into your battles like David did, not as an underdog, but as a champion. Because when God is on your side, no giant can stand against you.
