Judge Not

"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you." - Matthew 7:1-2

It's all too easy to look at the lives of others and be quick to judge areas of weakness in their lives. We notice their mistakes, flaws, and sins, often without considering our own. But Jesus calls us to a higher standard. He reminds us that judgment is not our job and that we should focus on our own hearts instead.

We all have our own struggles, sins, and imperfections. None of us is without fault. When we judge others, we often do so from a place of pride, forgetting that we, too, are in need of God's grace and forgiveness. In Matthew 7:1-2, Jesus warns us against this attitude, teaching that the measure we use to judge others will be used against us.

Instead of judging others, we are called to show compassion and understanding. When we encounter someone who is struggling, rather than casting judgment, we should extend a hand of support and encouragement. This doesn't mean we condone sin, but it does mean we approach others with the same grace that we hope to receive.

We see this played out in the story of the woman caught in adultery found in John 8:1-11. The religious leaders were quick to condemn her, ready to stone her for her sin. But Jesus responded with compassion and wisdom, challenging them to examine their own hearts: "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” One by one, they left, convicted by their own shortcomings.

Jesus's response to the woman caught in adultery teaches us an important lesson about judgment. He did not condone her sin, but He offered her grace and a chance to start anew. We are called to do the same—to approach others with a spirit of humility, recognizing that we, too, are flawed and in need of God's mercy.

As you navigate your relationships and interactions with others, remember to let go of judgment. Instead, strive to be an example of God's grace and love, extending compassion and understanding to those around you.
