Promise Keeper

“And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.”
- Revelation 4:3
Kristian Stanfill sings the beautiful song “The Lord Our God.” The song starts out, “Promise maker, promise keeper you finish what you begin. Our provision, through the desert, you see it through to the end. You see it through to the end.” What an awesome reminder isn’t it? Our God is a promise maker and a promise keeper.

The author in Revelation describes the one sitting on the throne and says, “A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.” The rainbow is significant to the story of God. The idea of the rainbow is given by God. It was given in Genesis 9 as a promise that He would never flood the earth again.

When you see a rainbow, you should be reminded that God made a promise that He would never flood the earth again. Every beach across the globe is a statement of God’s promise that He would not do that again. Then when do the rainbows show up? They show up after the storms, do they not? So what is God saying to us?

He is saying, “I’m a promise keeper. I’m there in the storm, and I’m there after the storm.” How great is that? He is there IN the storm and He is there AFTER the storm. This lets us know that He is not just waiting for us on the other side, but He is in the fire with us.

Now keep in mind, if God has promised you something, it does not mean everything will be easy. In Psalm 37, God promises us the desires of our heart. But this does not mean the process of giving us those desires is always comfortable and easy.

On your way to God’s promise, you might be opposed or challenged. You might even be left feeling broken and wrecked. But remember, He is the promise maker and the promise keeper. He will finish what He began, He will see it through to the end!
