Stop Faking It

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:10

When you have a low view of yourself, it’s hard not to let it shape how you see God. It creates a small view of Him, one where you doubt His ability to work through you or believe He’s made a mistake in giving you significance, success, or leadership. In those moments, you might feel like you don’t belong, like you’re a fraud, and you tell yourself, I’ll fake it till I make it.

But faking it doesn’t fix the problem. It only adds to the fear and insecurity you’re already carrying. Instead of living authentically in who God has called you to be, you start living to prove yourself, please others, or pacify the voices of doubt in your head. You try to cover up your perceived shortcomings by striving harder, putting on a front, and hoping no one sees the cracks.

God didn’t create you to fake it. He created you to walk in the purpose He’s planned for your life. You are His workmanship, His masterpiece, designed intentionally and uniquely for the good works He has prepared for you. When you live in fear of being exposed, you miss out on the joy and freedom of being who God made you to be.

The solution isn’t to pretend, it’s to trust. Trust that God’s opinion of you matters more than anyone else’s. Trust that He’s equipped you for the position, platform, or opportunity He’s given you. Trust that His strength is made perfect in your weakness.

You don’t need to prove yourself to others. You don’t need to please everyone around you. And you certainly don’t need to pacify your doubts by wearing a mask of false confidence. What you need is to root your identity in the God who knows you fully and loves you completely.

Stop faking it and start walking in the confidence that comes from knowing you are chosen, called, and created by God. He hasn’t made a mistake in placing you where you are. Step into His purpose with boldness and let Him use you just as you are.

Amen Pastor Ed! I gotta say though, looking back, the best thing out of all the opportunities that have come was a simple conversation with a hair stylist. God was helping me learn a new way of communicating with people and it was going well. By the end of the visit there it ended with “you are not alone.” Her eyes opened wide. The whole conversation had been leading up to it and I got to watch God blow her away right there. I used to go there every 2 weeks to get my haircut and after that day I never saw her again.

I hope she felt Jesus' presence in that moment and I hope she remembers that moment when she feels alone in the world and I hope that moment drives her to look for Jesus. Ephesians 17-19 The Great Preacher of peace and love came for you, and His voice found those of you who were near and those who were far away. 18 By Him both have access to the Father in one Spirit. 19 And so you are no longer called outcasts and wanderers but citizens with God’s people, members of God’s holy family, and residents of His household.
