But How, Though?
“If you say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved from the punishment of sin. When we believe in our hearts, we are made right with God. We tell with our mouth how we were saved from the punishment of sin.” - Romans 10:9-10
If you read yesterday’s devotional, you are fully aware of your need for Jesus. If we want to live a life filled with purpose, fulfill our destiny, and spend all of eternity in heaven, we need Jesus. We need Him because we are not perfect.
As Isaiah 64:6 tells us, “All of us have become like one who is unclean. All our right and good works are like dirty pieces of cloth. And all of us dry up like a leaf. Our sins take us away like the wind.” Even our best efforts are not enough for Him. We cannot meet His expectation of perfection. That means that you can live your whole life and be “good” and still not go to heaven.
That is because the standard of heaven is perfection. But we are not perfect. So we need Him. This is the point you are probably asking, but how, though? How do we get to heaven if the standard is perfection, and we are not perfect?
Romans 10:9-10 gives us the way; “If you say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved from the punishment of sin. When we believe in our hearts, we are made right with God. We tell with our mouth how we were saved from the punishment of sin.”
You must say it. You must believe it in your heart, and you will be saved. You must say what? Believe what? That Jesus died for your sins. He went to the cross, was crucified, and rose from the dead on the third day. He was perfect, but He took your imperfections upon Himself so that you have hope, so that you can spend eternity in heaven with the Father.
Tell God that you believe that Jesus died and was raised from the dead, that you are a sinner but you know that Jesus died to take those sins from you, that you are sorry that you are the reason Jesus went to the cross, but from this day forward, you are committing to giving your life to Him. When you do this, you can experience heaven, and you can live a whole new life with Jesus as Lord!
