Wisdom To Gain

“So be careful how you live. Live as men who are wise and not foolish. Make the best use of your time. These are sinful days.” - Ephesians 5:15-16

Over the last two days, we have unpacked the myth that there is such a thing as “luck,” “coincidence,” or “happenstance.” When it comes to God, these words just aren’t in play. He is intentional and has a purpose for all that He does. Proverbs 16:33 tells us, “Man decides by throwing an object into the lap, but it is the Lord only who decides.”

While we might make decisions based on what we consider “luck,” God has a plan and purpose for everything He does. He is always orchestrating things in our lives because He is a loving God who wants the best for us. As we mentioned yesterday, instead of trying to figure out whether something is a coincidence or not, instead ask God, “Lord, what are you teaching me through this time of my life?”

When something happens to you, there is something to learn from it. More importantly, there is wisdom to be gained. Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “So be careful how you live. Live as men who are wise and not foolish. Make the best use of your time. These are sinful days.”

God wants us to use our time wisely. How we do that is by not getting caught up in what is happening around us and focusing on things that are outside of our control. But instead, consider what He wants us to gain and to learn from what is happening. This is where wisdom comes in.

When you are more concerned with what God is teaching you and how He wants you to grow through your current circumstances and trials in life, you will gain invaluable wisdom that will translate to all areas of your life. And it is amazing when God uses that wisdom at a later time to help you in a totally different situation.

When you have that wisdom, the situation will play out entirely different than had you not learned your lesson before! Again, God does this because there is no “coincidence.” He is either orchestrating or allowing things to happen to test your growth so that you can continue to become the person He created you to be!

This certainly helps to put your trials/suffering in a Biblical perspective.
