Looking Forward
“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” - Philippians 3:13-14
Do you know where you are going? I don’t mean tonight for dinner; I mean in your life. Do you know where you are going in life? Sometimes, God doesn’t let us know where we are going. He wants us to trust Him even when we cannot see what He is doing. In those cases, we must stay obedient and know He will take care of us and lead us where we need to go.
But sometimes, God intends for us to know where we are going. We have discussed goals several times in the last week. God wants you to have goals. There are even goals that God gives you Himself. He places them on your heart and gives you a desire to chase something that is His ultimate purpose for your life.
When you know what the goal is and where you are going, it can give you the motivation, and more importantly, the discipline to keep going when things get difficult. Oftentimes, when we think about our goals and where we are trying to get to, we get really excited. We love to tell people about the things we are going to do and where we will one day be.
This can be a great thing because when we know what is ahead, we know WHY we must stay the course. Do you have goals that you know God wants you to pursue? Do you know where you are going or where He is taking you? If not, ask God to reveal to you what goals He wants you to have. When you know where you are going, it can be one of the greatest sources of strength for the difficult road.
It will not always be easy but remember where you are going and why you have to get there. Paul said it best when He said in Philippians 3:13-14, “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
