Light of the World
“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’” - John 8:12
Yesterday, we discussed the “heavenly prize” Paul talks about in Philippians 3. If you did not read yesterday’s devotion, I would encourage you to do so. But in short, the heavenly prize God will give you for obeying Him and not living according to “the ways of the world” is far greater than the earthly prize you can gain on your own.
God does not want you to get caught up in all that the world has to offer but instead be consumed with Him and what He can give you. But how do we do that? How can we stay focused on God and not get caught up in the ways of the world?
John 8:12 tells us, “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’”
See, Jesus is the Light of the World. If you don’t want to walk in darkness, simply follow the light! Jesus gave us the blueprint while He was here on earth. Jesus was tempted by Satan three times and did not give in to sin. Jesus is the light that knows no darkness. By following Jesus, and living as He lived, you will avoid the darkness and remain in the light.
If you want to receive the heavenly prize Paul is talking about and be blessed by your Heavenly Father, walk in the light. How do you do that? Follow Jesus. Follow His light. He knows no darkness!
