Fear of Judgment

“Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. So let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.” - Romans 14:12-13

As we continue to look at reasons we might be delayed in obeying God’s calling, I want to shift your focus to perhaps the number one reason people don’t do what they set out to do. And that is judgment.

As a society, we are afraid of being judged. We worry, “Well what is my mom going to think?” Or “what will my husband think?” Or “what will johnny_398473 on Instagram think?” But seriously, we are so worried about the opinions of others, that we oftentimes do not do what we want to do, because of that fear.

What is even worse is when God has clearly called us to do something, and we are disobedient because we are worried about what those around us will think of us if we are obedient. Romans 14:12-13 reminds us of what we should be thinking when it comes to judgment.

The passage says, “Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. So let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.”

See, at the end of your life, you are going to have to take personal accountability. You will stand face to face with your Heavenly Father and have to defend everything you have ever done. When that day comes, what is going to matter? What God says or what johnny_398473 says?

When we think of it in the grand scheme of things, it sounds silly. And yet we still continue to choose to appease those around us. You have a choice to make. Are you going to worry about the judgment of others or God’s judgment?

You will never regret obeying God. Do not let the opinions of others keep you from living out His will in your life.
