Too Dirty
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” - 1 John 1:9
Have you ever gone “mudding” or played outdoors for a while, to the point you just felt really dirty? Maybe you were at a friend’s house and you guys decided to ride your Go-Kart through the mud or played tackle football after a rain shower had come through, and now your clothes are just filthy.
Once you were done playing, your friend is ready to go inside and get warm. But you think, “I can’t go into your house. I am way too dirty. Your parents do not want me to come inside.” You just can’t seem to believe your friend when he says, “it’s fine, they don’t mind.”
Now, this whole time you have thought about the physical dirt on your clothes. But I want to shift your thoughts to the “dirt” in your life. For many of us, we feel “too dirty” to “go inside” and be in the presence of Almighty God.
Like the friend with the crazy nice house, we don’t want to “mess anything up” by bringing our dirt into their beautiful home. In the same way, we don’t want to bring our mess to God. But what if that is exactly what God wanted?
The truth is, God wants you to come inside. He wants you to be in His presence, no matter what dirt you bring with you. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
God will take care of the dirt. The more time you spend in His presence, the “cleaner” you will become. Too many believers (and non-believers) think they have to be clean before they come into the presence of God. But that just isn’t the case.
He wants you NOW. With all the dirt, He wants you to come inside!
