Your Bubble

“Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?” - 1 Corinthians 12:29-30

Do you know why fantasy football has become so popular? Because we love playing the role of General Manager. So many football fans are always thinking about what their team should do, who they should draft, who they should sign in free agency, and which players they should trade for.

We construct the best theoretical, mythical rosters imaginable. And thus, fantasy football was created, for all the “wannabe GMs” out there. I’m partly kidding. But it’s true. We love to build and construct teams.

But when you draft your fantasy team, do you pick all quarterbacks? What about receivers? Or defenses? It would be crazy to spend every pick on the same type of player. Just like in real football, you would never put 11 quarterbacks or 11 receivers on the field at the same time.

You need people of all different roles. You need someone to throw, someone to run, someone to catch, and someone to block. Then you need defense; you need some to rush the passer and others to cover the receivers. It takes many different roles.

The same is true in God’s Kingdom. 1 Corinthians 12:29-30 says, “Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?”

Maybe this sounds familiar. You live a life with a bunch of people who are just like you. They think like you, they talk like you, and they even do the same things you do. And while it is good to have friends and even co-workers who have the same interests, God has not called us just to be around those who are like us.

I want to challenge you today. Like a fantasy football GM, you need different types of players. And you need different kinds of people in your life. You need mentors, and you need people you can mentor. You need people who will make you laugh and people who will challenge you. You need people who know God and people who don’t yet know God.

God has made all of us different. It’s time to get outside of your bubble and bring those into your life who fill those different roles. So, I’m going to ask you, GM, who’s your next pick?
