A Mentee
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” -- Proverbs 22:6
As we walk through this journey we call life, it is important to have peers that walk beside us. It is important to have mentors that we can go to who walked ahead of us. Each of these roles is important.
We need those who are similar in age and life circumstances who can relate to where we are. Meanwhile, it is also important to have someone who has already been down the road we are on and has come out the other side. But there is a third party we must remember.
As we walk through life, we must remember to turn around and look back to help the next generation. In the same way that you are looking to those who walked in front of you, the next generation is looking at YOU!
There are things that I’m sure you wished someone had told you. Things you had to learn the hard way and only through life’s experiences. What is really cool is how God will put people in your life who need your story and who need your wisdom.
You might have gone through something in life that someone younger than you is going through right now. And they need your advice. As children of God, we should be servants for Him!
Life is not just about taking, but also giving back. It is great to have “your people” who can walk beside you. It is great to have a mentor who has walked ahead of you. But don’t forget to turn around and look back and help those coming behind you!
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Who can you turn back and help along the way? It doesn’t matter if you are 50 or 15. You are ahead of someone in life. You have been through things and learned things that others need. Don’t forget to turn back and help those coming behind you. God will bless you for it!

This is so true. I have been privileged to have many wise women in my life. And now...as a (very young) 70, I am realizing how much wisdom God has given me to pass on. So, that will be the subject of my next book: THINGS I WISH I'D KNOWN SOONER...Wisdom Lessons God Has Taught Me on The Road of Life. Thanks for all you do, Pastor E
