Revealing Your Gifts

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” - 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Do you know your spiritual gifts? Has God revealed to you which gifts He has blessed you with? You might be saying, “Pastor, I am a believer in Jesus Christ. And I want to live out His purpose and plan for my life, but I have no idea what my spiritual gifts are. How do I find out what they are so I can use them to advance God’s Kingdom?”

God reveals His spiritual gifts to us in different ways. God might reveal His gifts to you through prayer. He might reveal them to you through a hardship or struggle. Or He might reveal them to you as you serve others.

First, God might reveal your gifts through prayer. Don’t know what your gifts are? ASK HIM! Pray and ask God to reveal the gifts He has given you and how He wants you to use them. You have not because you ask not. If you don’t know your gifts, it might be because you haven’t asked Him.

God could also reveal your gifts through hardship or struggle. It might take going through something difficult, that you learn what your gifts are. As we overcome trials and difficult circumstances, God has a way of showing us the gifts He has blessed us with. This is why it is important not to become frustrated in hard times but to learn what God wants to teach us through them.

Or God could reveal our spiritual gifts as we serve others. Recently we talked about caring for and serving those around us. We learned all kinds of benefits to serving others. One that we didn’t mention was that, as you serve others, you might just find your spiritual gifts.

God will reveal your spiritual gifts in the timing and way that He sees best. Your job is to use those gifts for Him.

Timothy sums it up perfectly when He says, “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
