The Power of Helping Others
"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me." - Matthew 25:35
Imagine the impact you can have on someone’s life by simply deciding to help them when they are in need. Acts of kindness and obedience to God’s call can transform lives in profound ways. One powerful biblical example of this is the story of the Good Samaritan.
In Luke 10, Jesus tells the parable of a man who was beaten, robbed, and left half-dead on the road. Several people, including a priest and a Levite, passed by without helping. But then, a Samaritan—a person who was considered an enemy to the Jews—came along and saw the man’s desperate need. Moved by compassion, the Samaritan stopped, bandaged his wounds, and took him to an inn where he cared for him. The Samaritan even paid the innkeeper to continue looking after the man until he recovered.
The Samaritan’s obedience to God’s command to love his neighbor resulted in the man’s life being saved. This act of kindness not only met the immediate physical needs of the injured man but also demonstrated the depth of God’s love and mercy.
Think about your own life. There are people around you who are hurting, struggling, and in need of help. They might not be lying on the side of the road, but they could be battling loneliness, financial difficulties, or emotional pain. Your decision to step in and help can make all the difference.
Now ask yourself, Who in my life needs help? How can I be the hands and feet of Jesus to them? It could be something as simple as offering a listening ear, providing a meal, or helping with a financial need. The important thing is to be attentive to the needs around you and be willing to act.
When you choose to help others, you are participating in God’s work of restoration and healing. Your obedience to His call can lead to life-changing outcomes for those you serve. Just as the Good Samaritan’s act of kindness had a serious impact, your willingness to help others can transform lives and reflect God’s love in a powerful way.
