On The Throne
“After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.’ At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.”
- Revelation 4:1-3
- Revelation 4:1-3
In the very beginning of Revelation chapter four, we see the description of the throne of Heaven. Where are you today? Are you knee deep in debt, trying to pay bills? Are you suffering from a divorce or past relationship that you just cannot seem to shake? Have you lost someone special, and just don’t know how you will ever get past it? No matter where you are today, it is important to remember, not only will you come face to face with the One on the throne. But don’t forget who it is that is on that throne.
When times are difficult, it is probably pretty unlikely that the book of Revelation is the place you turn to in your Bible for encouragement. Let’s face it, this is a book many believers never go through. For others, it is only read in church or when you are at a spiritual strong point and you feel good studying the end times. But in a crisis? Never.
While much of the book does speak to the end times, as even Revelation 4 is referencing, there is encouragement in this passage. And that encouragement is that Jesus is on the throne. That means no matter what you have been through, what you are currently going through, or will go through, He is still on the throne. He was on the throne last year, yesterday, today, tomorrow, and ten years from now He still will be on the throne.
But what does that mean for you and me? He is on the throne...so what? What it means is that God is in control. It means that nothing has, is, or will happen to you that catches Him by surprise. He knows everything and has it all figured out. God is in control of your life. He just wants you to trust Him. So wherever you are, stop and thank God that it is He who is on the throne!
