A Hardened Heart

“The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk. Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.”
- Revelation 9:20-21
Yesterday, we talked about those who will reject Jesus for the final time in Revelation 9. Many will make a decision focusing on the now instead of the forever. But there is more to it than just that. For these individuals, their hearts will be hardened, and when this happens, there is often no turning back.

So where does a hardened heart come from? Well, to be blunt, a hardened heart comes from sin. Sin causes our hearts to harden. As you commit the same sins more and more, you become accustomed to them. What was once guilt, becomes comfortable, and you no longer feel bad for it. You heart becomes numb, and well... hard. At this point, it is tough to ever get back to the way you were before, and that is a dangerous place to be.

Perhaps you have become accustomed to the sin you are in. Maybe your sin no longer bothers you, or you don’t think it is a big deal. Regardless, it will harden your heart and make you less tender to the Word of God and the transformation he wants for your life. James 1:15 says, “Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”

We see multiple times in Scripture that sin leads to death. Do not go down this road, my friend. If you are on this path right now, repent and turn back to God before it is too late! God has an unbelievable plan for your life. But He can’t accomplish it if your heart is hard. Repent from your sin. Allow God to soften your heart, and seek the plans He has for you!
