Praying For God’s Favor

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.” - Psalm 90:17

How frequently are you praying for God’s favor? As a believer, I have great news for you: God FAVORS you! He wants to give you His favor as you search and seek out His will for your life. But God does not force anything upon us. Following His will, choosing His ways, and praying for His favor are all things we must do ourselves.

Psalm 90:17 says, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.” If we want God to establish the work of our hands, we must first ASK Him to do so.

We talked last week about a man named Jabez. This was a man whose family was in real pain. His name literally meant, “pain.” And yet, he was bold enough to pray for God’s favor. He asked God in 1 Chronicles 4:10, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.”

Here is a man whose family did not seem to be experiencing the favor of God, and yet he had the boldness to request exactly that from the Lord. He was willing to ask for God to grow his territory and widen his influence! And he asked the Lord to protect Him so he would be free from the pain and suffering his family had felt. What an example for us to follow!

Are you praying for God’s favor? It is a request God wants to bless you with. God’s will is that you obediently follow His purpose and plan for your life. And in doing so, He wants to favor you!

I needed this today. I have loved the Lord since I was 6 and I am assured of His love and favor, but I don't daily ask him to establish the work of my hands. I am nearly 60 with ADD and I daily pray for Power and Love and Sound Mind, but not to establish the work of my hands. Adding this. Seeking to obey him fully in EVERY area! Thanks, PED (Pastor, Ed).
