What We Could Never Do
“The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent His own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins.” - Romans 8:3
Yesterday, we talked about a God who desires to be friends with sinners. He knows that we have flaws and that we will mess up, but that does not stop Him from pursuing us and loving us. The reality is that Jesus knows we are going to mess up. And that is why He came to do for us what you and I could never do for ourselves.
Jesus, in His perfection, hung out with totally imperfect people. He knew they were flawed, and He knew that they would sin against His Father, but He also knew He was sent for a purpose. Jesus had to come to earth, live a sinless life, overcome the same temptations we faced, and die on a cross, taking the blame for our sins.
We see that in Romans 8:3, “The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent His own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins.”
Aren’t you thankful that Jesus did for you what you could never do for yourself? Born from sin, into a world filled with sin, you never had a chance. We are, in our own human nature, sinful. And the punishment for that is death and eternal separation from the Father. But God loved us too much. And so He sent Jesus to not only befriend sinners, but to die for them.
He Did what we could never do! And because of it, we can spend eternity in heaven with Him! Aren’t you thankful He died just for you?
