Short-Changing God’s Best

“And then He added, ‘It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.’” - Mark 7:20-23

As we continue to look at the reasons God will disrupt your life, we come to one that is perhaps the most common reason God steps in and shakes things up. We now know that God disrupts our lives to gain our attention and to remind us of our need for Him. But He also disrupts it to remove the sinful habits we have fallen into.

If you have ever been in church, you have likely heard the phrase “God’s will.” God’s will is His ultimate plan for our lives and how He would like for our lives to unfold. God’s will is the best-case scenario for us. The more obedient we are to Him, the better our life will be. Sounds simple enough, right?

The problem, though, is sin. Sin throws a wrench in God’s will. When you are living in sin, you are living in direct disobedience of God’s will and are short-changing the best-case scenario for your life. You are choosing what you want in a moment over the ultimate rewards and blessings God wants to give you!

Sin is an ugly thing. And the habit of sin can ruin one’s life. That might sound like a dramatic statement, but that doesn’t make it any less true. This is why God will disrupt your life when you are in a state of habitual sin: because He loves you too much to leave you there.

Mark 7:20-22 says, “And then He added, ‘It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.”

When we sin, we are short-changing the life God wants to give us. Be careful my friend, you might be living in sin now, thinking everything is fine. That is the exact time God will disrupt your life. Seek Him now, repent, and let Him help you get back to living the life He has destined for you to live!
