In Over My Head

“But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring nothing to things that are.” - 1 Corinthians 1:27-28

Yesterday, we talked about being “pushed in the pool.” To recap, there was a billionaire who threw a party and offered his guests their weight in gold and the mansion the party was thrown in if they could swim across his pool filled with alligators and make it out alive.

To no one’s surprise, nobody jumped at the opportunity. But right before they were leaving, they heard a splash, and everyone turned to watch a man fight for his life across the pool. The billionaire was ready and willing to honor his word but his only question was what possessed the man to do such a thing?

The man said he did not care about the gold or the mansion…he wanted to know who pushed him in. Sometimes, we all just need a little push. Maybe not into a pool of alligators, but into a situation we are not ready for. Have you ever been pushed into something you did not feel ready for?

Maybe you felt like you were in over your head. Maybe by life circumstances or by personal choices, you would say you have been asked to do something you are ill-equipped for. Maybe your wife got pregnant unexpectedly. Maybe you have been fired from a job, and now you have to find a new one. Maybe you have been hired, and you don’t feel qualified.

Whatever it might be, you feel like you were pushed into something you just aren’t ready for. If you are reading this saying, “Pastor Ed, you are speaking to me right now…how did you know?” The truth is, I didn’t. But God did. He knew you needed to hear this today.

And because of that, can I speak some encouragement over you? The places you feel the least qualified are often the places God does His best work. God loves to use underqualified people because it shows His greatness. When you do something you could have never done on your own, God gets the credit.

When you find yourself in a situation that you were pushed into, relax. You are EXACTLY where God wants you to be. And He’s got you! Dare to see what He will do next!
