Losing a Blessing
“And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, ‘How can the ark of the Lord come to me?’ So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.” - 2 Samuel 6:9-10
When you choose delayed obedience or disobedience altogether, you are not only losing out on an opportunity but a blessing. The Bible tells us that we reap what we sow. When we sow seeds of obedience, we reap the rewards of God’s blessings.
But when we sow seeds of disobedience or delayed obedience (still disobedience), then we reap the consequences. And those consequences are not only disciplinary, but they are missing out on the blessing God intended to give us.
2 Samuel 6:9-10 tells us about a time when David was disobedient. The passage says, “And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, ‘How can the ark of the Lord come to me?’ So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.”
David didn’t see God’s way in the situation, and so he chose to disobey what God had commanded. As a result, he missed his blessing.
As we discussed a few days ago, you don’t have to have all the answers to obey God. You just have to trust Him. It doesn’t matter if you can see it in the moment. God will make a way. But when you choose your own reasoning or understanding, and you decide you are going to go against the plan of God, you reap the consequences. And unfortunately, those are far worse than the consequences of obedience. Most people avoid consequences because their minds go straight to the discipline, the punishment.
But what I want you to think about is what you lost. When you disobey God, you lose out on amazing opportunities God has for you. You also lose the incredible blessings He had in store for you. Don’t lose the opportunities or blessings of God. Obey Him, every time. You will never regret it.
