Fitting In
“Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” - Matthew 6:8
When we fail to trust God and have faith in His plan, we get ourselves in trouble. But on the other hand, when you choose to have faith, it can change your life. Real, genuine faith can move mountains.
But a lack of faith can turn things for the worse. So why do we do it? Why do we not trust God? Well, unfortunately in times when we don’t show faith, what we are really communicating is that we think we know better than God.
Yesterday, we looked at the first way we do this, by eating the forbidden fruit. Like Eve, we refuse to trust that God knows better, and so we indulge in what He has forbidden us from.
Today, I want to look at a second reason why we don’t trust God: we want to fit in. This was the Israelites undoing when they wanted a king so they could be like all the other nations. It wasn’t enough for them that God was their ruler. They thought they needed a king like everyone else.
Sound familiar? How often have you gotten in trouble trying to be like everyone else? See, God hasn’t called you to be like everyone else. Matthew 6:8 says, “Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”
God has a very specific plan for your life. And that plan isn’t to fit in; it’s to stand out. God wants you to stand out and bring attention to His name. We get ourselves in trouble when we fail to trust God and instead just go with the status quo.
Choosing to fit in and be like everyone else comes at a cost. Especially when that choice undermines God’s plan for your life. Choose faith. Trust God and don’t worry about fitting in. When you trust Him, He will take care of all your needs.
