The Truth That Sets You Free
"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." - John 8:32
I want to challenge you with a question as we dive into today’s devotion: What truth would set you free? Think about it for a moment. Maybe it's a truth about yourself, about your past, or about the world around you. Whatever it is, the truth has the power to set us free.
In John 8:32, Jesus says, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." This is a powerful statement that reminds us of the transformative power of the truth. But what does it mean to be set free by the truth?
For many of us, the truth can be scary. It can bring up painful memories, difficult emotions, and uncomfortable realizations. But the truth also has the power to heal and to bring us into a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
Maybe the truth that would set you free is that you are worthy of love and belonging, no matter what mistakes you've made in the past. Maybe it's the truth that your struggles with mental health are not your fault and that you deserve to get the help and support you need. Or maybe it's the truth that the world is broken and in need of healing, but that we can be a part of that healing process through our actions and our love for others.
The truth can set us free in so many ways. It can free us from shame, from fear, and from self-doubt. But we have to be willing to seek out the truth and to face it head-on. We have to be brave enough to ask ourselves the hard questions and to seek out the answers that will lead us toward healing and wholeness.
So, my challenge for you today is to ask yourself: What truth would set you free? And then, be willing to seek out that truth, no matter how difficult or uncomfortable it may be. Remember, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)
