The Beauty of Humility

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. - James 4:10

In a world that often praises self-promotion, God has called us to humble ourselves and trust in His timing, that He will take care of everything else. While society may elevate those who boast in their own achievements, God delights in those who humbly promote His glory instead.

Humility isn't about thinking less of yourself; it's about thinking of yourself less. It's an attitude of the heart—an acknowledgment of our dependence on God and a recognition of His sovereignty over our lives. When we humble ourselves before the Lord, we position ourselves to receive His grace and favor.

Throughout Scripture, we see countless examples of God exalting the humble and bringing down the proud. From the shepherd boy David, who was anointed king despite his lowly status, to the humble servant Mary, who was chosen to bear the Savior of the world, God delights in lifting up those who exalt Him above themselves.

Jesus Himself modeled humility in the most profound way possible. Though He was the Son of God, He willingly took on the form of a servant, humbling Himself even to the point of death on the cross. And because of His humility, God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name.

Follow the example of Christ and embrace humility in your own life. Resist the temptation to promote yourself and instead seek to promote God's glory in all that you do. As you humble yourself before the Lord, He promises to lift you up, to exalt you in His perfect timing and according to His perfect plan.
