Are You Thinking About Future You?

"The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it."- Proverbs 22:3

When was the last time you really thought about your future self? It’s easy to get caught up in the moment, making decisions that feel good right now without considering how they’ll impact you a month, a year, or even a decade down the road. But the choices you make today are the building blocks of your future. Are you making decisions that your future self will thank you for, or are you undermining the life God has for you by living only for the moment?

We often prioritize immediate gratification, whether it’s spending money we don’t have, neglecting our health, or making choices that seem harmless now but will have long-term consequences. It’s like planting seeds that we hope will grow into something good, but we’re not paying attention to what kind of seeds we’re planting. The truth is the decisions you make today will either lead to a harvest of blessing or a field of regret.

God calls us to live with wisdom, and part of that wisdom is thinking about the future you. Proverbs 22:3 reminds us that the prudent, the wise, see danger ahead and take steps to avoid it, while the simple charge ahead and suffer the consequences. It’s not about living in fear of the future, but about making choices today that align with God’s plan and will benefit you in the long run.

So, what does that look like? It means taking care of your spiritual health by spending time in God’s Word and prayer, knowing that these habits will strengthen your faith over time. It means making wise financial decisions, not just for immediate comfort but to ensure you’re in a position to be generous and secure in the future. It means investing in relationships that build you up and help you grow, rather than ones that pull you away from God’s best for you.

It’s time to ask yourself, “Am I thinking about future me?” Are you making decisions today that will lead to a future filled with peace, purpose, and blessing? Or are you setting yourself up for a future filled with regret and missed opportunities?

God has a plan for your life, and it’s a plan that spans not just today but the days, months, and years ahead. When you make decisions with your future self in mind, you’re not just investing in a better life—you’re aligning yourself with God’s perfect will for you. And that’s something you’ll never regret.
