A Guaranteed Promise
"Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need." - Malachi 3:10
When it comes to giving to God first, we often hear the phrase “It’s a step of faith.” And while that’s true, it’s also so much more than that. Giving to God first isn’t just an act of hope, it’s a confident step rooted in the promises of God. He doesn’t ask us to give blindly without any assurance. In fact, God promises in His Word that when we honor Him by giving to Him first, He will provide for us.
One of the most remarkable parts of Malachi 3:10 is that God invites us to “put Him to the test.” Nowhere else in the Bible does God offer such a direct challenge. He’s essentially saying, “Trust Me in this. Test Me. See if I won’t pour out blessings when you put Me first.” God isn’t just asking for a leap of faith; He’s giving you a guaranteed promise.
The reality is, when we give our first 10% to God, we’re not just hoping that everything will work out. We’re standing on the solid foundation of God’s promises. He has never broken a promise and He never will.
He assures us in His Word that when we honor Him with our firstfruits, He will meet all of our needs. This isn’t about God giving us back exactly what we gave. It’s about Him providing for us in ways that go far beyond material blessings.
Remember the story of the widow at Zarephath in 1 Kings 17? She gave the last of what she had to the prophet Elijah, trusting God’s word, and in return, God provided for her and her household through the entire famine. Her willingness to give, even when it seemed impossible, opened the door for God’s miraculous provision. That same God, who took care of her, is the same God who promises to take care of you when you give to Him first.
If you’re wrestling with the idea of giving to God first, take heart. You don’t have to wonder or hope that He will provide, He guarantees it. His promises are certain, and His faithfulness is unwavering. Trust Him with your firstfruits, and watch how He provides for your every need, just as He said He would. God’s never broken a promise, and He’s not going to start with you.

Yeah that’s the verse that got me in the Bible app the other day. I was out on a job in Laredo. Just got paid. I guess fear won that battle. Justified with my interpretation of lean not on your own understanding. lol. I just owe so much money it’s hard to justify dropping so much cash before paying them. Like it isn’t really my money. But nevertheless it is Gods money first and foremost. Every time I have given in the past I get blessed with several good jobs netting way more than what I gave.
