God Wants Your Heart

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." – Matthew 22:37

It’s easy to think that God is mainly concerned with your actions, whether you’re making good decisions, following His commands, or staying on the right path. And while those things are important, they’re not the ultimate thing. What God truly desires is your heart.

You can make all the “right” choices and still miss the deeper connection God wants with you. Obedience matters to Him, but He’s not interested in mechanical, joyless compliance. He doesn’t just want you to do what’s right because you feel you have to. He wants you to want what He wants—to trust Him, love Him, and desire to walk in His ways because your heart is fixed on Him.

At the core of every decision you make is what your heart treasures most. If your heart is set on God, your choices will naturally align with His will. But if your heart is focused on something else; success, approval, or comfort, your decisions will reflect that instead. That’s why God isn’t just after good behavior; He’s after your devotion.

When your heart belongs to Him, obedience becomes less about duty and more about delight. You trust Him even when you don’t understand the full picture. You seek Him not just for answers, but for relationship. You want to follow Him because you know that His ways lead to life and joy.

This kind of heart connection isn’t something you can manufacture on your own. It comes from spending time with God, reading His Word, praying, and letting Him shape your desires. As you draw near to Him, He transforms your heart to mirror His.

Today, ask yourself: Does God truly have my heart? Am I obeying Him out of obligation or out of love? Surrender your heart to Him completely, holding nothing back. When He has your heart, everything else—your decisions, your actions, your priorities, will follow. God doesn’t just want what you do; He wants you. Give Him your heart, and let your love for Him guide everything you do.

He sure is great Ed. He didn’t just save my life but He gave me a home. I thought initially my life was over. I had ruined it beyond repair so whatever comes next I will gladly serve Him not being concerned with myself. But that’s not what has happened at all. We started going to church at cbc a few years ago initially just me and my son. I wanted to raise him in the church with God so he would always have Jesus. Teaching him to give we made a game out of the socks and underwear to play ball so he would be interested. Trying to remind him again about it yesterday of our little game I made we went up as usual. But there was someone at the box this time volunteering. Without a beat or any instruction he tells Cory Jr let’s make this fun and proceeds to line him up for free throws. Ed you just can’t make this stuff up man. You talk about things at service that I share with others during the week and even things I pray about that nobody else hears. I know God is with us and He has definitely prepared a place for me with you all. Thank you so much.
