Wake Up!

“Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.”
 - Revelation 3:2-3
In the third chapter of Revelation, John tells us to “wake up!” He says that we must ”strengthen what remains,” because our “deeds are unfinished in the sight of God.” The Scripture tells us that if we do not wake up, Jesus will “come like a thief.” Like a thief? Jesus, why are you breaking in? In reality, this move on Jesus’ party is very strategic. It’s not what you think where Jesus is implying He’s going to do something illegal.

Sardis was 1,500 feet above sea level, and three sides of this town overlooked a mountain range and a cliff. And the people of Sardis were so arrogant, so smug thinking that they were a city that could never be defeated. They had one way in the city, and one way out of the city. And they would strategically place watchmen all around the three walls. They thought they were invincible.

But the Persians and Grecians sent mountain climbers up the mountain, scaling the walls to put Sardis’s arrogance to shame. And when they got to the wall thinking that they would be confronted by the watchmen, they found the watchmen asleep on the job. When Jesus says, “wake up,” He is speaking to the church of Sardis who understands what it is like to be asleep and have the enemy creep in.

If you are not careful, the enemy will creep in and create havoc and chaos in your life that can lead to destruction. So many believers have already experienced this. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus says, “I came to have life and life more abundantly.” However, in order to experience that abundant life, you must stay alert.

So let me ask you a question. Have you fallen asleep spiritually? Maybe you haven’t stayed on top of your prayer time or Scripture reading. If so, Satan seeks to take advantage of you when you are at your weakest. Maybe you are spiritually tired, and you haven’t been strengthened by the Word as of late. If so, this is your reminder to wake up! God wants to speak to you — not only to share His will, but also to keep you alert and on guard so the enemy can never gain a foothold. Do you need to wake up today?

I really needed to hear this today! There have been many challenges this past year and somehow, I now feel like it is so hard for me to feel Jesus close to me. But I know he never moves away. Please pray with me for Jesus to speak to me and heal my heart and be close. Thank You for this wonderful tool to enrich my life!! Tracey B.
