Open the Scroll!

“And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?’ But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside.”
- Revelation 5:2-4
As you read today’s key passage, I want you to pay specific attention to the scroll that is mentioned. In verse 1, the author says, “Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals.” It continues with the passage written above. Now notice how John responds to the fact that no one can open the scroll.

“I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside.” The scroll was connected to the throne. But what is the big deal you might ask? There is going to be a moment as God is holding the scroll that someone has to come and take it and open it up. And when that first seal opens up, it begins to bring judgment on this earth, specifically targeting Satan, the anti-Christ, and the demonic forces of hell.

The church does not go through the tribulation, it is removed. So we do not go through the pain and the punishment. Meanwhile, those who rejected Jesus, along with Satan and the anti-Christ will be dealt with. The reason this is so important is because it assures us of the peace all of us believers will receive!

We want no more tears, no more death, no more sickness, no more chaos, no more wars. We want God’s Kingdom to come. But that Kingdom does not come unless those scrolls open up. That is the reason John is weeping that no one could open them.

But there is a silver lining. We will face difficulties and trials on earth, and if we are faithful we will receive the crown of life, just like we talked about a couple of days ago. But the blessings do not stop there. There is coming a day when you will be with Christ, and peace will be yours! All of the pain and suffering from this life will cease. God will give us everlasting peace. Is that not amazing when you truly stop and think about it? All we need is for He who is worthy, when the time comes, to open the scroll!
