Time To Hustle
“When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, ‘Come!’ I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, ‘Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!’”
- Revelation 5:5-6

The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. How often have you heard that statement? Well, it doesn’t stop in the end times. In Revelation 5, we see the anti-Christ is in charge of the scales. What’s on the scales in regards to wheat and barley? Food. Not like filet mignon, just staples. Wheat and barley.
Wheat and barley, in this context, are the food of someone who’s begging. What this passage is speaking about is inflation. The scales tip because the price of what used to be cheap items are now much more expensive. We are seeing this in a much smaller degree now. It seems everywhere is hiring, but yet nobody is working.
As Jesus followers, we should have a work ethic that is unrivaled. We should have a spirit of hard work and hustle. Remember, as believers we are supposed to be different. John 15:19 says, “If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world...”
God has chosen us. His plan is not for us to sit around and receive pay stubs from the government if we are perfectly healthy. Of course, government assistance is great for those who need it and cannot physically work. But if you are physically able, it is time to hustle. God has not called you to be like the world. He wants us not to fit in, but to stand out. And one way to do this is to have an unrivaled work ethic. Now is the time to hustle!
