Quiet In The Storm
“When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.”
- Revelation 8:1
- Revelation 8:1
Sometimes, life feels like it is caving in. You get hit with terrible news. Someone passed away prematurely, you didn’t get into your dream school, your husband or wife slapped you with divorce papers. Whatever it might be, you have no idea what you are going to do next. Everything seems to be crumbling, and you just don’t know what to do.
It is often in these times that we turn to God. Unfortunately, it often takes circumstances like these to get our attention and place our focus on God. Let’s face it. For many believers, when everything is going well, we act as if we don’t need God. But as soon as things stop going our way, we realize that He is the one in control, and we want Him to be our genie and answer our every wish.
Now that is a whole separate topic of how we need God all the time, but even when these tough times come and we ask God for help, what do we do next? We wait. But for many, we don’t wait long. We want His answer yesterday. And anything longer is just not okay. But the reality is God doesn’t always answer right away. Revelation 8:1 tells us, “...there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.”
Sometimes, even in the storm, God is quiet. You might wonder why. And even though it’s a tough pill to swallow, God does not always tell us why He’s having us wait to hear from Him. On occasion, you find out later why He was silent, but other times you never learn why. But that is not what is important. What God wants is for you to wait patiently for Him. This can be difficult in the society of instant gratification that we live in. But that is exactly what God wants — for you to wait for Him.
So the next time you are in a storm and do not hear from God right away, do not panic. Do not get ahead of Him and act in your own way. Wait patiently for God. He will answer you. It just might not be in your timing. When God is quiet in the storm, He is working. Allow Him to work on your situation, and watch Him come to your rescue, time and time again!
