On Earth As It Is In Heaven

“Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.”
- Revelation 8:5
If you’re a follower of Jesus, you’re probably familiar with the Lord’s prayer. It starts like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Even though this prayer appears in Matthew 6, we need to take note that Revelation 8, and the book of Revelation as a whole, will bring about this phrase of the famous prayer into fruition.

There is coming a day where God’s Kingdom will come to earth, and that Kingdom will be “on earth as it is in heaven.” After the wrath, vengeance, and judgment of God, He will build a new Kingdom on earth. This day is coming. It is not just a phrase or figure of speech, but a true reality that all believers will one day get to experience.

There are two parts to that phrase found in the prayer of Matthew 6. He says, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” First, your kingdom come. This is what the Lord will bring after the Tribulation period. He will bring heaven to earth. His Kingdom will reign for all of eternity! Hallelujah!

Second, Matthew says, “your will be done.” That is what is taking place all throughout the book of Revelation. The concluding book of the New Testament is a forecast of what is coming in the end times. It is what God says will happen. It is His plan, and His will. And His will, will be done. These are things as a believer that you can count on.

As a follower of Christ, this should bring you great peace and excitement to know the will of God will be done. Everything He is planning will take place. On top of that, He will bring the perfection of heaven down to earth. So all of the things that are wrong with the world now will be no more. We will reside in a perfect place because it is His Kingdom. This is something to celebrate! You and I can look forward to the day when it is on earth as it is in heaven!
