The Mystery
“And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, ‘Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.’”
- Revelation 10:4
- Revelation 10:4
We have spent the last few days recollecting on the power of Jesus — remembering that He is with you in the fire and being reminded to focus our attention on Him. We’ve talked about how He is in control and this is all His domain, and we’ve discussed the importance of pressing the pause button. There is so much to be learned from Revelation chapter 10.
Jesus’ power is on full display in Revelation 10:2-3, “He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted the voices of the seven thunders spoke.”
What are the seven thunders, you ask? We do not know the answer to that. Many commentators have spent thousands of years trying to explain the seven thunders, but nobody knows. When you read the Bible you hear about thunder as a prequel to the storm. It is almost as if John picks up the pen, and just as he is about to write, Jesus stops him. Jesus tells him to put the pen down because it is a mystery.
The seven thunders are a mystery, but the one thing you need to know is Jesus is standing in the water and on land. The beauty of reading passages like this are that it does not just apply to these times. The same applies to you today. You might be going through something and you have no idea how it is going to turn out. It could be a promise you are waiting on from God. It could be shocking news that sent your world in shambles.
Whatever it is, you are praying, asking God for answers. But your circumstances remain a mystery. When this happens, do not get obsessed with knowing WHAT is going to happen. Remember WHO is going to happen or WHO is going to make it happen. Fix your eyes not on the mystery — your situation, circumstances, or people around you.
But instead, fix your eyes on the one who controls the land and the sea; the one who has total control over everything happening in your life right now!
