Winning Team... Losing Team!
“I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign: seven angels with the seven last plagues—last, because with them God’s wrath is completed. And I saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the beast and its image and over the number of its name. They held harps given them by God.” (Revelation 15:1-2)
Have you ever been to a high school sporting event between rival schools? It doesn’t even have to be rival schools, but just two teams that are highly competitive with really energetic and engaged student sections. Throughout the game, as momentum swings, each student section takes their turn yelling chants at the other.
As the time winds down, and it becomes evident who is going to win, the student section of the presumed winning team will begin yelling one last chant, it begins by pointing at their own side saying “Winning team!” and then transitions to pointing at the other side chanting, “losing team!”
As the tribulation reaches an end, that moment will come for all of humanity. And if you stand with Jesus, you are on the winning team. And if you choose Satan, you will lose. It is inevitable, it is decided, and it is unchangeable. This is the great news of Jesus Christ. When you give your life to Him, you are choosing the winning team.
This is the silver lining in this entire series of Revelation. No matter how bad it appears, as dark and gloomy and depressing as it seems at times, in the end, Jesus does win. And the even better news? He doesn’t just win in the end of time, but He wins in your life and He wins in my life. When you follow Jesus, you will win.
So what does it mean to “win?” It means that no matter how many times you mess up or go down the wrong path, as long as you repent and turn back to Jesus, you will win. The Bible says that God works all things for the good of those who love Him. This means that when you love Him, even when you mess up, He works it for good! And because of this, you can rest easy knowing that as long as you are with God, you play for the winning team!
