In The Trenches
“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:3-4)
When you think of the characteristics of a great leader, what comes to mind? Is it someone on the throne wearing a crown giving instructions to those beneath him? Is it someone ordering those who work for him to do all the tasks that he should never have to do? While this visual might make you think of a king from the “olden days” it can be applied to 21st century corporate America.
There are CEOs who give instruction to departments in the company that they do not even have the slightest knowledge about. But it is okay because these employees need to “pay their dues.” Fortunately for you and I, this is not the leadership style of the ultimate leader, God. The God you and I serve stays in the trenches with His people.
Revelation 21:3 says, “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.“ This verse does not say He will rule from far above them. It says He will dwell among them and with them. God will be with His people, and He will be their God. He is going to help them and serve them along side them.
This is the God you serve. When you need Him, He not only will help you, but He will help you from the trenches. God will move mountains to make His will happen in your life. Is there an obstacle in your way? God is already working to remove it. Is someone opposing you? God is working and will take them out of your way. Whatever you are facing, God will help you, and not by telling you what you should do, but by doing the work Himself. That is the type of God you serve — the ultimate leader!
