Outcome Decided
“And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” - 2 Kings 6:17
Have you ever watched a show or a movie with somebody and you already knew the ending? You’re more engaged and entertained by the response of other people so you’re not even really watching the movie. Instead, you’re watching them. It is a different filter or perspective as you watch.
We do this in sporting events when we record them and know the outcome. You tape a game and want to watch it on your own so that no one can spoil it for you, like those chatty people who want to tell you what happened when you just want to watch for yourself?
If you are like me, when you record a game and you find out your team loses, you don’t watch it. You just delete it. There have been times I have been watching a game I recorded, and I get a report my team lost, so I just delete the game. But when my team wins, I watch the entire game. It does not matter if they are down in the first quarter, second quarter, third quarter, even up until the last few minutes in the fourth quarter.
Even though they are losing when you watch, because you know the outcome, you are not nervous or concerned. This is the perspective Elisha was looking through in 2 Kings 6. In verse 17, he prays to God, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.’”
As a believer, you are blessed to know that no matter how things appear in the moment, you have won. This is the assurance we have in Christ. There might be moments when things do not look great, but rejoice in knowing it is not over. Because when it comes down to the wire, God will deliver you. This is a promise you can claim. When you are His, your outcome is already decided!
