I Need God
“And my God will give you everything you need because of His great riches in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:19
There are times in our life when it just seems nothing else will suffice. You come to a place where you just are like, “I don’t need another Tweet. I don’t need another TikTok inspirational video. I don’t need Pinterest, I don’t need a Hallmark card. I don’t need anybody going, ‘just have more faith.’”
Have you ever been in a place in your life where nothing anybody could say or would help you in your current situation? In these moments, what you need is God. You think, “If I can just…” or “If they will just…” You try to manipulate the circumstances in your favor, but it fails. You think to yourself, “if I just try a little harder…”
But even in spite of your best effort, it just doesn’t work. There are times in your life when God will not allow even your best efforts to come through. And you look around, and no matter who it is, no one can help you. You might ask, why would God ever allow me to get into a position like this?
Because He wants you to see that what you really need is Him. Philippians 4:13 is the well-known verse saying, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” It is the inspirational verse many people recall when they are trying to make things work. But the end of the verse says “through CHRIST who gives me strength.”
There is a reliance there. You need God. Six verses later, Paul reminds us, “And my God will give you everything you need because of His great riches in Christ Jesus.”
Sometimes, He doesn’t allow your own efforts, or the efforts of those around you, to work. But that does not mean the Lord leaves you out to dry. He will give you everything you need. But what you really need is Him.
