A Spirit of Fear

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” - 2 Timothy 1:7

Do you have a spirit of fear? Do the difficulties, challenges, or hardships life throws your way lead you to faith, or do they lead you to fear? If you are not a Christ follower, it is understandable why hard times would make you fearful. You are not in control, and you have no idea how things are going to turn out!

As a Christ follower, you are also not in control…so what is the difference? As believers, we know the One who is in control! And that is all the reason we need to not be fearful. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

When you are fearful, it is not from God. God never gives us feelings of fear. Instead, fear shows a lack of faith. Craig Groeschel said, “What you fear reveals where you trust God the least.” That is a pretty challenging statement when you look at it in that light.

Everyone has different things that come easier to trust God with. Maybe it is easy for you to trust in the historical account of Jesus. You are as convinced as can be that He died on the cross and rose again. You believe He took your punishment and lived a sinless life.

But you struggle to believe that He will lead you into a godly marriage or relationship. You believe He is coming back to Earth one day, but you struggle to believe He is going to provide for you financially.

What do you struggle to trust God with? Where do you trust God “the least?” God has not given you a spirit of fear. He can be trusted with every aspect of your life. He is faithful! He always has been and always will be!
