God of Restoration
“Instead of shame and dishonor, you will enjoy a double share of honor. You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.” - Isaiah 61:7
The God we serve is many things: He is loving, He is powerful, He is wise, He is gracious, and He is merciful. We could go on and on describing all of the amazing qualities that make up our God. But I want to add one that most believers forget or rarely think about: God is restorative.
The God you serve is the God of restoration. What does this mean? Google the definition of the word “restoration,” and you will get this definition: “the action of returning something to a former owner, place, or condition.”
Now, as stewards of all that God has made in this world, we are not the “owner.” We do not own the right to be blessed or placed in high regard. The blessings we receive are gracious gifts from God. We are not entitled to them. But that word “condition” is the one I want you to think about:
“The action of returning something to a former condition.”
What was your former condition? What condition were you in that you wish you could go back to? Maybe it was before you got really sick. Maybe it was before you were shoulders deep in addiction. Maybe it was before you made the choice to leave your family, your job, or the city you lived in.
If you are one that longs for returning to a former condition, I want you to know that the story is not over. Isaiah 61:7 says, “Instead of shame and dishonor, you will enjoy a double share of honor. You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.”
God is many things, and one of the things He does best is restoring what was lost. Whatever it is you lost, God wants you to know that it is not over. Your story is not finished, and there is still way more to be written. He wants to bless you in ways you cannot imagine. Give praise today to the God of restoration!
