Delight Yourself In Him
“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.” - Psalm 37:4
Did you know that you can have the desires of your heart? So many people make the mistake of thinking, “When I give my life to Christ, I have to give up all the things I really want.” But that statement could not be further from the truth.
In fact, God WANTS to give you the desires of your heart. But before He can give you those desires, He must align your heart with His, and that starts with delighting yourself in Him. See, God doesn’t want to be a genie that you only come to when you want something. He wants to have a personal relationship with all of His children.
He wants to be your number one priority, not just the gifts He gives you, but God, Himself. This starts by delighting in Him. When you do this, He promises to give you your heart’s desires. Psalm 37:4 says so: “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.”
The word “delight” means, “to please (someone greatly), great pleasure.” God wants you to take pleasure in Him. Take pleasure in your prayer time, praying and conversating with Him. Take pleasure in worshipping Him. Take pleasure in meditating and just listening to Him.
When you take pleasure in the moments you have with God and look for Him in everything you do, He will begin to speak to you in ways you have never previously experienced. He will teach you things and unlock thoughts and ideas you never had before. God wants to give you a power that is only accessible through Him.
But to find that power and any other desire you have, it all starts with delighting in Him. He doesn’t just want you to come to Him for what He gives you. God is looking for you to fall in love with the gift Giver rather than just the gift. If you have a desire that you want God to bless you with, it starts with delighting yourself in Him. Take pleasure in your time spent with God!
