What Controls Your Life?

“Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.” - Proverbs 4:25-27

I want to ask you a question today: what controls your life? This might be something you never actually think about, but when we really get down to it, there are a lot of things that could be controlling all (or most) of your actions.

I firmly believe that what consumes our mind controls our lives. And in a nation where many have deemed this time the “information age,” we have given many different digital platforms our time and consumption. When we are consuming these things at such a high rate, they have the ability to really control how we think and what we do.

There is a reason we call them “social media influencers.” They are “influencing” the things we wear, the products we buy, and the places we go. Now more than ever a brand or influencer can impact your thought process in a way that completely decides what you do next.

So I want to ask again, what controls your life?

Proverbs 4:25-27 warns us to “Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.”

Are you spending more time on social media than you are with God? This devotional is not meant to bash social media. It definitely has its perks. And our control can be given to things far beyond social media. The problem comes when we give control to the enemy or the things of this world rather than our Heavenly Father.

Jesus wants you to stay focused and remember to Whom you belong. He says to look straight ahead and keep your eyes fixed on Him. When we are consuming His Word, we are allowing Him to control our lives rather than this world. Who or what controls your life?
