If You Love Me...
“We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey His commandments. Loving God means keeping His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome.” - 1 John 5:2-3
Have you ever loved someone to such a degree that you just wish you could show them how much you love them? It’s like saying it just isn’t enough. You appreciate all that they do and how much they mean to you. So you just want to do something to show them how much you truly love them.
Have you ever felt that way with God? Maybe God has really blessed you and done things you could have never imagined. He has extended such grace and mercy in your life when you didn’t deserve it. You love Him and you appreciate all that He has done for you.
So, how do you show that love? 1 John 5:2-3 gives us the blueprint for how we show God just how much we love Him. The verses say, “We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey His commandments. Loving God means keeping His Commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome.”
This isn’t the only time we see this statement though. John 14:15 says, “If you love Me, you will obey My commandments.” Do you want to show God how much you love Him? Obey Him.
But why is that? Why is obedience the way we show God we love Him? Because when we are obedient, we are choosing God’s wants over our own. Sin is often a quick, cheap pleasure. It is something that satisfies us in the moment, even though it does not serve us in the long run.
When we obey God, we are choosing to forgo that cheap pleasure in favor of God’s ultimate will for our lives. Do you want to show God you love Him? Obey Him! It really is that simple.
