Lacking Nothing

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” - James 1:2-4

When you renew your mind, when you can discern God’s perfect will, and, in faith and obedience, pursue it. When you can walk in pure joy in the midst of life’s toughest tests and trials, you will get to a place where you are “mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

That is what James says in James 1:2-4, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Lacking nothing doesn’t mean that you are at the end of the road. It doesn’t mean that you have accumulated every material thing you want and that you are now some perfect person. As we have said many times over the last few days, you never stop growing.

Lacking nothing is when you don’t need anything to be content with where you are. You might be in the middle of a difficult trial, but you don’t need anything. You might be facing fierce opposition, but you aren’t in need of anything.

Because you understand that with God, all you have is all you need. Because of the faith you have in Him, there is nothing else you need. There is no need to get mad or upset. There is no need to make an impulsive decision. There is no need to try and chase quick fixes or cheap pleasure.

When you get to a place where you can face tests and trials with pure joy, and your mind is renewed and transformed, you get to a point where you are lacking nothing because you realize you have the only thing you need: God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Trinity – all you’ll ever need and abundantly more than you deserve.
