Give Without Expectation

"Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you." - Luke 6:38

Today I want to talk to you about giving without expectation. You see, in life, there are takers, matchers, and givers. Takers are those who only want to take from others, without giving anything in return. Matchers are those who will match gifts and acts of generosity but expect something in return. Then there are givers, who give without any expectation.

As believers, we should strive to be givers. Why? Because giving is the essence of the gospel. God gave His only son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. He gave us forgiveness and salvation, even though we didn't deserve it. And as followers of Christ, we are called to imitate His generosity and give without expectation.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. "But Pastor, how can I give without expecting anything in return? Don't I deserve to be recognized for my generosity?" And I get it, it's natural to want recognition and affirmation for our good deeds. But the thing is, when we give with the expectation of receiving something in return, we're not really giving at all. We're just making a transaction.

But when we give without expectation, we're giving out of love and compassion for others. We're giving because it's the right thing to do, not because we expect something in return. And let me tell you, when we give without expectation, it's like a boomerang effect. The more we give, the more we receive. Not necessarily in material possessions, but in joy, peace, and a sense of purpose.

So, my friends, let's be givers. Let's give generously, without expectation. Let's imitate the selfless love of Christ and spread kindness and compassion to those around us. Remember, "Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you." (Luke 6:38)
